What Is an Emirates ID?

The Emirates ID (also called the UAE National Identity Card) is the mandatory national identification document for all UAE residents — citizens, residents, and GCC nationals living in the UAE. It is issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP).

The Emirates ID is required for:

  • Opening a UAE bank account
  • Accessing government services online and in person
  • SIM card registration
  • School enrollment
  • Healthcare access (insurance card and ID linkage)
  • Vehicle registration and driving license
  • Ejari registration (as primary ID)
  • Airport and border crossing (UAE nationals)

Every UAE resident is legally required to carry their Emirates ID at all times.

Emirates ID Applications We Handle

New Emirates ID (First-Time Residents)

All new visa holders must enroll for an Emirates ID within 30 days of their residence visa being stamped. We schedule your biometrics appointment, prepare documents, and submit the application through the ICP system.

Emirates ID Renewal

Emirates IDs expire with the residency visa. We process renewals for all visa types — employment, investor, family, golden visa, domestic worker.

Typical renewal fee: AED 100 (3-year card) + service fees.

Emirates ID Replacement (Lost or Damaged)

If your Emirates ID is lost, stolen, or damaged, we apply for an urgent replacement. A police report may be required for lost cards.

Emirates ID for Newborns

Children born in the UAE must be enrolled within the first year. We handle newborn Emirates ID applications with birth certificate attestation.

Process

Step 1 — Document Preparation

We review your residency visa, passport, and any supporting documents. For new applications, the residence visa (or entry permit for status change applicants) must be valid.

Step 2 — Typing Center Submission

We submit your application through an authorized ICP typing center with all required details. An application reference number is generated.

Step 3 — Biometrics Appointment

ICP schedules a biometrics appointment (fingerprints and facial scan) at an ICP service center or authorized location. We provide the appointment details and guide you through the process. The appointment typically takes 15–20 minutes.

Note: Biometrics for children under 15 are optional (fingerprints not captured). Biometrics for infants under 1 year are not required at the initial enrollment.

Step 4 — Card Production & Delivery

Emirates ID is produced by ICP and sent to the address registered in the application. Delivery: 7–10 working days after biometrics. Express delivery options available via Aramex (additional cost).

Emirates ID & Residency Visa Linkage

Your Emirates ID validity is directly linked to your residency visa:

  • 2-year employment visa → Emirates ID valid for 2 years
  • 3-year investor visa → Emirates ID valid for 3 years
  • 10-year Golden Visa → Emirates ID valid for 10 years
  • UAE national → Emirates ID valid for 5 years (adults) / 5 years (minors)

When your residency visa is renewed, your Emirates ID must also be renewed. We coordinate both renewals together.

Importance of Emirates ID for Business Owners

For business owners, a valid Emirates ID is required for:

  • Signing company documents and contracts
  • Ejari registration (required for trade license renewal)
  • Corporate bank account KYC
  • Opening utility accounts (DEWA, water)
  • MOHRE portal access (for employee visa processing)

An expired Emirates ID can block multiple business processes. We ensure all investors and employees under our management have current, valid IDs.

Fines for Expired Emirates ID

There is no grace period for an expired Emirates ID. Using or presenting an expired Emirates ID is a violation of UAE law. Fines apply to individuals who fail to renew within the specified period. Contact us well before your ID expires.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for Emirates ID before my visa is stamped? In some cases, yes — ICP allows biometrics enrollment during the entry permit phase (before status change). We advise on the optimal timing for your situation.

My Emirates ID arrived damaged from ICP — what do I do? Contact us immediately. We apply for a replacement card as a manufacturing defect — there is no fee for damaged cards from production.

I lost my Emirates ID — how quickly can I get a replacement? With a police report in hand, we can submit a replacement application same day. Replacement cards are issued within 7–10 working days.

Can I travel without my Emirates ID? UAE residents use their passport for international travel. However, GCC nationals and UAE citizens can use their Emirates ID to travel within GCC countries.

Do domestic workers need an Emirates ID? Yes — all UAE residents, including domestic workers, must have a valid Emirates ID. We include Emirates ID enrollment in every domestic worker visa application.
